Alpian recently announced that professional tennis player and Olympic gold medallist, Belinda Bencic, is joining them as their Chief Inspiration Officer. To find out what inspired this partnership, we had a chance to meet Belinda face-to-face and ask her ourselves.
What inspired you to join Alpian?
With Alpian, we share the same values and views on everything. So, it’s really nice to be part of the whole journey and to inspire other athletes and tennis players. But not only that but also all the other people and young people and just people with dreams. It’s really nice for me to be able to give something and try to inspire and help along the journey.
It doesn’t matter, you know, how much you have in your bank account. But it matters how you do everything with it and how you live your life and how you achieve your dreams and your future goals.
What should people expect from banks today?
I feel like a bank really must not feel intimidating to ask questions. It should feel very comfortable. You should feel like you can share your thoughts and questions and they should help you along the journey. Of course, with expert advice, but also it has to feel very natural and approachable. They should really help people understand more so they are not scared to even touch and approach certain topics of life.
What does Wealth Beyond Money mean to you?
As I compare it, in my tennis life, it’s also mostly about what people see. It’s the titles or the wins or how much is your ranking or how much have you won already. But they don’t really see the whole journey behind it. And I feel like in life it’s mostly about that. And the concept of Alpian – I really like this a lot – because there is really more to it. There is wealth beyond money, and this is the most important thing. It doesn’t matter, you know, how much you have in your bank account. But it matters how you do everything with it and how you live your life and how you achieve your dreams and your future goals.
How important is financial education for athletes?
As a tennis player, I’ve played tennis all my life. I feel like sometimes I haven’t been educated enough on certain topics of my finance life or investing. And I feel it’s very important for a bank to show the way.
Reports indicate that women find financial language more inaccessible than men. How can this change?
I really hope this will change because also for women, it’s important to learn all these things and to try to understand them, but also then to finally do it themselves. It’s definitely a process. It doesn’t happen from one day to another. And I really love that Alpian wants to try to change this as well. And yeah, for me, this is great. This is something that I really associate with.
